Monster Mastership Cancelation 14 Mar 2007

Cancelation of the Monster Mastership 2007

This is the official Press release from promoter Tilman Goebel:

Hello everyone,

unfortunately we have to inform you that we have to cancel the Monster Mastership in 2007.
The unstable financial situation only four months in advance is the reason why we won´t set up the contest at the splash! festival in Leipzig, as it was originally intended.
We´ve already been working on the event for four months now and nobody can say that we haven´t tried everything to make it happen, but even if we cooperate with the festival there´s still a lack of approx. 500.000,-€.

There will be a guestbook online on www.mastership.de within the next days to give everybody the opportunity to get rid off the frustration.
We would like to thank you for the support and the belief in the event in the past months, it really means a lot to us!

Hope to see you at our other events we are planning for 2007!

Cheers

European standard for skateboards & skateparks by Bram Waterman 02 Feb 2007

Hello Europe,
Hereby I inform you that there is a European standard for complete skateboards (EN13613) and a European standard for skateparks in unsupervised area's (EN14974).
I don't think it is good to standarize skateboards and skateparks because it causes limitations which is not good for skateboarding in general.
But the E.U. decided that there has to be a standard for skateboards and skateparks, so we are forced to live with it.
The only thing you and I can do is try to change the standards in something we can live with better.
I am the only skateboarder involved in the standardization process of above standards since 2004.
The committee for skateboards this is CEN/TC 136 WG10.
The committee for skateparks this is CEN/TC 136 WG12.

EUROPEAN STANDARD FOR SKATEBOARDS EN13613
The European standard (EN 13613) is already effective in all EU countries since 2001.
This means that all complete quality skateboards are illegal, even when they are assembled by a skateshop!
Illegal because they don't have a whole list of users and maintainance instructions, marking and a whole bunch of manufacturer's info.
There are several issues in this standard that I don't aggree with.
The status of EN13613 is that it is in revision right now.
Johan Andersson from Sweden and Jim Gay from the US are supporting me in this revision process.

European Standard for skateparks in unsupervised area's (EN14974)

This standard has become effective since November 2006.
Before EN14974 most of the European countries used the old German DIN standard.
This antiquated and standard was draft for EN14974.
I became member of the European committee WG12 in a very late stage.
I still managed to change a lot in the interest for skateboarding by using logic arguments from a users perspective.
Still there are several things in EN14974 that I do not aggree with.

WANT TO HAVE INFUENCE?
Right now I can use support (financial and technical) for the skateboard standard very well.
The next meeting of WG10 is March 20th-21st in Cologne, Germany.
You can become member of WG10 if you become member of your national standarization intsitute.
This costs apprx. 1000,- euro a year.
When you are member, you can also take part/decide in the European standard committee for skateparks in the future.
You can also support me technically by giving your comments on EN13613 and giving your comments on my comments on EN13613.
If you are interested, please send me an email to bram@skateboardfederatie.nl.
The past years Skateboard Federation Netherlands paid almost €4000,- on membership fee's and travel + hotel for the meetings.
I am looking for ways to refund this money to keep me motivated to do this boring work.
If you have any suggestions, please email me.
